NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN

VFW National Home for Children

Mission: "The VFW National Home for Children's mission is to provide children, youths, families of veterans, active-duty military, and members of the VFW and its Auxiliary opportunities for growth and development in a nurturing community, and by doing so, serves as a living memorial to all veterans."

The Home founded in 1925 as a place where the families left behind by war -- mothers and children, brothers, and sisters -- could remain together, keeping the family circle intact even when their serviceman did not come home.

Today's families face different challenges -- reintegration, post-traumatic stress, high unemployment, and rehabilitation from battlefield injuries, among others -- and the National Home has evolved over our decades-long history to meet those changing needs.

Over 95 years, the National Home has evolved to meet the changing needs of America's military and veterans' families. Through it all, one thing has remained constant: The National Home's commitment to honor our nation's veterans and active-duty military by providing help and hope for their children and families.

How many of you knew that you did not need to be a resident of the Home to receive help? The Military and Veteran Family Helpline is a free service that offers information, creates connections, and gives hope to struggling military and veteran families.  All you do is call 800-313-4200 to speak with one of their experienced problem-solvers who care deeply about veterans and their families.

The support of our Posts is highly desirable for the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home for Children so that they can keep providing for the needs of those there.   All must remember these families and children need our assistance for a brighter future.

Here are just some of the ways your Post can support the National Home for Children:

  • Purchase a Life Membership in the Home for yourself, a worthwhile Comrade, or a Post Officer
  • Purchase a Tribute Brick to make your Post a part of the National Home's history or a personalized brick, which can be a beautiful way to honor a friend or loved one and leave a lasting mark on the campus.
  • If you shop Amazon, you can support the Home through its "Amazon Smile" program.

There are many ways a Post can raise funds in support of the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home for Children.
